Alaskan Malamute History

Likely descendants of the Arctic Wolf, Alaskan Malamutes get their name from the Malamute Tribe, who lived in Western Alaska. The Malamutes were skilled hunters and fishermen who took good care of the loyal dogs they had partnered with for survival in the harsh Alaskan climate. Malamutes are featured as wonderful characters in novels by Jack London and J.O. Curwood. Along with other breeds, they have participated in polar expeditions Abundsen and the Duke of Abruzzi.

Alaskan Malamutes are know for having a great sense of direction, with the ability to find paths home even when they're covered by snow in blizzards.
